Mafia 2 Review

I just finished this one, the first in this year. I heard that it was short. Well, it depends. The main story looks nice and yes it's a bit short if you ask me, but that is because there is a straight line between missions, I mean you don't have side quests and too much free time to do something on your own. The thing with this game is that it is more erotic then any other mafia games and that's about it - you collect playboy magazines as you progress with the story. It's 40's or 50's so expect the radio music, the announces and the whole environment to be recreated from that period. Even if Mafia 2 takes place maybe 30 or 40 years after the first Mafia game, you still drive "boats" - I mean old cars. This game reminds me of Godfather, and it even looks like Godfather a little bit, in game-play, driving, cut-scenes, action. And since I mention Godfather, do not even consider playing Godfather 2, because it's like cartoon-gta, the cars are lame, the environment it's also week in quality, and the graphic it's more cartoonish than real. The action tends to drag a lot in Godfather 2. So I would say this one is Godfather 1 with sexy naked ladies. I heard the japan version is censored, I mean wtf, it's only titties, everybody has them, damn those commies. I specially liked the part, and the most easiest and shortest mission around the last missions when you drive some old red car and you get to drive to a house in a suburbs to kill a witness. That moment it's the last scene we saw in Mafia. Two duds in a red car stop in front of your house asking you that some big boss sent you a message and then shoot you with a shotgun in your yard (oh, and you are an old man, so it doesn't really matter). That part was the Easter egg an the connection between the two games. In Mafia 2 you get to kill this old man on his front yard. I always thought that that moment sucks, but i guess now I know what the producers had in mind. In this one you are Vito and you have a pal named Joe, a trouble maker, you get to play in WW2 for a bit, before coming back in Empire Bay and become a gangster. This is not about climbing the ladder of the family, but survive the games between the three main families that run Empire Bay. Overall it's a good action driving shooting game, with lot's of cut-scenes and movies in the main story mode and a good addition to the collection. I didn't like the last part when they kill Joe and Vito doesn't do anything about it. I guess, like in the first Mafia, the producers want to underline that being part of this world doesn't mean that it always goes your way.

ADD-ons
4 DLC (Vegas Pack, Renegade Pack, Greaser Pack, and War Hero Pack)
- these are some new cool cars, and some new cool clothes to choose from without working to get them.

The Betrayal of Jimmy
- this DLC is not so cool, basically you have 2 cut-scenes;one at the beginning, one at the end. Between the two, you just go around the city killing, stealing, and beating people, without any cut-scenes. They just give you some written layout of the mission before the start. It is really boring and very long.

Jimmy's Vendetta
- more of the boring Jimmy's mission between 2 cut-scenes. This Jimmy doesn't give up so easily. Even I wished that he was dead already.

Joe's Adventures
- this DLC is more worth it than any other. You have some nice cut-scenes and missions playing as the fattest character in the game, Joe, Vito's pal. The action takes place in the 10 years that Vito spent in jail. If you ever wonder what Joe did in those years, this is it. This add-on brings 19 more playboy magazines to discover and a very annoying side-mission - keeping the meter over 35 Mph or the car explodes after a 3 sec warning becomes very annoying when trying to do some corners with heavy traffic in front of you.

SCORES

Graphics - 9 (nicer on Nvidia 3D Vision)

Gameplay - 9

Feeling - 8

Story - 9

Size - 1 dvd-dl - 5gb + 3gb add-ons

TOTAL 9

Status: buy it, play it, have some pointless fun with add-ons, it's not better than Mafia, don't expect too much. Add it to the collection and expect maybe a Mafia 3 and pray that they do it right the next time.
